01 / 06 · Fire

More than twice the fire of a diamond.

Fire is the rainbow flash you see when white light splits inside a stone. Moissanite splits it 2.4 times as wide as diamond does.

A round brilliant is cut to return light through the top of the stone. Moissanite bends light more sharply than diamond does: 2.65 against 2.42.

First found in a meteorite crater.

In 1893 Henri Moissan found tiny silicon carbide crystals at Canyon Diablo, Arizona. Natural moissanite is extremely rare. Every stone sold today, ours included, is grown in a lab.

Made, not mined

Lab-created, and we say so.

Every Siderelle stone is moissanite grown in a lab. It is not a diamond and we will never call it one. It is a gemstone in its own right: harder than sapphire, with more fire than diamond, at a price that makes sense for something you wear every day.

It begins as light.

Moissanite is silicon carbide. In the lab, pure silicon and carbon are heated past 2,000 °C until they rise as a glowing vapour.

02 / 06 · Crystal

What people ask before they buy.

What is moissanite?

Moissanite is crystalline silicon carbide. It was first found in a meteorite crater in 1893 and is so rare in nature that every moissanite on the market, including ours, is created in a lab. It is near-colourless, 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale and has more fire than diamond.

Is it a diamond?

No. Moissanite is its own gemstone. It looks similar to a diamond but throws more rainbow-coloured fire. A basic thermal diamond tester may read it as diamond; a multi-tester identifies it as moissanite. We always sell it as lab-created moissanite.

How big is the stone?

6.5 mm across, the same size as a 1 carat round diamond. Moissanite is a little lighter than diamond, so we give the size in millimetres rather than carats.

Will the silver tarnish?

No S295 silver is high quality silver and will not tarnish. We still dont advise swimming with it.

How long does delivery take?

Orders leave within 1–3 business days and arrive in 5–10 business days, tracked all the way. Delivery is free over €59 and €4.90 below.

Can I return it?

Yes. You have 30 days from delivery to return it unworn and in its original packaging. Your statutory 14-day right of withdrawal in the EU applies in every case. The steps are in our refund policy.
